We're Hiring: Upholsterer Job Description and How to Apply
Retro Den’s mission is to help people live life on a beautiful background because surroundings influence quality of life. We do this by offering collaborative interior design, new, vintage, and locally made home furnishings, trusted upholstery services, and an inspirational blog. We assist and empower people in creating beautiful and functional spaces in an approachable and fun way.
A Retro Den Upholsterer works to restore and create custom upholstered furniture using hand tools and his or her knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods in a creative small business environment. This is a full-time contract position, 40 hours per week.
Reads work orders, and applies knowledge and experience with materials to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover workpieces
Applies upholstery knowledge and experience to consult on project pricing/bidding
Examines furniture frames, upholstery, springs, and webbing to locate defects
Plans own work schedule and manages time to accomplish scheduled projects
Collaborates with other upholsterers and interior designers on projects
Provides own work-related equipment including upholstery sewing machine, saw horses, and hand tools
Retrieves and stocks necessary project supplies/materials (e.g., fabric, foam, buttons, piping) from local upholstery suppliers
Able to lift and maneuver furniture projects with minimal assistance
We are looking for a talented and motivated Upholsterer. This person is excited and passionate about providing quality, trusted upholstery services and advice for refreshing heirloom pieces in a modern way. Our ideal candidate enjoys working in a creative, small business environment with a lot of autonomy over his or her daily work schedule.
We are looking for someone with the following training and/or experience:
Completed technical training in upholstery at trade school
Experience with upholstery techniques either professionally or as hobby

We are a fun, vibrant small business with a passion for vintage + modern interior design. We greatly value our small Retro Den team and work to create a friendly environment that motivates and inspires. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), contract position, $18/hour. Upholsterer is paid by the project, so there is opportunity to earn more with increased skill-level.
