This week has been a series of ups and downs for us Ashleys. Palmer's dog passed away last weekend, and it was also her birthday yesterday. What the heck? Her dog Sagan was a beautiful soul, a sweet german shepherd who will be missed greatly.

It sounds trite, but your surroundings matter most when life kicks you in the ass. Have a home that brings you peace, have a home that encourages taking your next steps, a home that gives you the grace to see life in its best light.

My greatest achievement since moving into our current home was stopping my husband Patrick from spreading his change everywhere. Anyone else have that problem in their lives? Quarters on your bathroom sink. Pennies strewn across the kitchen counter. Dimes tucked between the sofa cushions. Sound familiar, anyone?

From Matching Lamps to Minimalism: Bedroom Decor in the Daly Abode

My bedroom has seen a lot, folks. Take that how you like, but I am referring to decorating styles. It's first days featured a large brass bed handed down to us by my parents. It was exactly like the bed Bob Dylan sang of in his song Lay Lady Lay. And as much as I loved the joke of that song and my bed mingling in my mind, the compromise of two people sharing a home meant that I had to part with my brass bed. Maybe my husband Ryan didn't like sleeping in his in-law's bed? Maybe we are just thirty-year-old hipsters aching for the non-sense of a low-lying platform bed. We'll never know. Unless I ask him, I guess.

The difference between minimal and unfinished decorating

I've been lying in bed thinking about this quite a lot over the past year. My life ritual is to swing from one extreme to another, then gently wander my way into middle ground. I did this with boyfriends. I did this with work. I'm doing this with my bedroom decorating, duh. So my once packed bedroom became quite a blank canvas this past year. And it's from this place, I have been contemplating the difference between minimal design and something not quite finished.

Tulsa home styling: A sweet and simple vintage boys' room

We always say our clients are stylish people, but this has never been more the case than when we worked with local blogger and house renovator Emily Netz. Emily and her husband Jeff recently renovated their 1920s Tulsa home (which you can see and read about here) and Emily designed and furnished nearly every space except for her boys' room. When it came to this room, Emily felt stuck on how to create the space she had imagined in her head and wanted an extra pair (or two) of eyes to help bring it to life. We were more than happy to help!

Colorful Vintage + Modern Kitchen Renovation in Tulsa, OK

Well, I can't believe it. Our kitchen is actually done. Done, I say! It's been so long, I'm ashamed for you to look back to see the date of the "before" kitchen post.

Okay. It was April 30th.

So that means the kitchen's been about six months in the making. Now to be completely fair, our kitchen has been functional since mid July, but the "finishing touches" took nearly as long as the bulk of the demo/installation. But whatever. It was our first renovation and we went at it without a general contractor and it's done now, so who cares if it took six months? Who's even counting, right? (I can say that now that it's over, because I did care. I was the crazy woman counting!).
