Tulsa home styling: A sweet and simple vintage boys' room

We always say our clients are stylish people, but this has never been more the case than when we worked with local blogger and house renovator Emily Netz. Emily and her husband Jeff recently renovated their 1920s Tulsa home (which you can see and read about here) and Emily designed and furnished nearly every space except for her boys' room. When it came to this room, Emily felt stuck on how to create the space she had imagined in her head and wanted an extra pair (or two) of eyes to help bring it to life. /Today, my baby girl is one year old (Happy Birthday, baby girl!). It became my recent goal to have this nursery tour done before her birthday. I tell myself that while it may seem most ideal to read a baby room tour before the child arrives (filled with so much joy and anticipation!), a post with the hindsight of a whole year of parenting has its perks as well.
We planned and prepped a lot to turn a multi-use space into a baby room. Below is my inspiration pile. I sat things together in a corner to see how they stewed, much like we kept saying names aloud for months to see if they lingered and were repeated, until finally only the ones we loved remained, Harriet Louise.

This post is about getting rid of things in exchange for a better life. I live this every day, folks. I lived an especially tough version of this recently with our baby's nursery. Her room had always been "my room." I stored crafts in there, as well as a makeup station, and a large computer where I used to do photo work and spend quality time on facebook. I spent hours in that room watching tweens on Youtube condescendingly tell me how to apply eyeliner for a sophisticated party look. Those were the days. It was basically a room to store my passing interests. Between us friends, it was a packed room that became easily cluttered and often caused me anxiety.

The difference between minimal and unfinished decorating
I've been lying in bed thinking about this quite a lot over the past year. My life ritual is to swing from one extreme to another, then gently wander my way into middle ground. I did this with boyfriends. I did this with work. I'm doing this with my bedroom decorating, duh. So my once packed bedroom became quite a blank canvas this past year. And it's from this place, I have been contemplating the difference between minimal design and something not quite finished.
