We first met Melissa George as a customer buying succulents at our shop. We soon learned that we shared more than just a love of succulents when she told us she quit her professional day job to pursue a creative career. Melissa now runs a successful home interiors + organization blog, Polished Habitat, and even teaches others how to get into the blogging world. We recently met up with Melissa and enjoyed touring her home, seeing DIY projects we'd read about in person and talking with her about her business and home. Read our Q&A with Melissa below.

When my father-in-law said he'd help us paint our house, I figured that meant it wasn't a hard task. I mean, if we can do it ourselves, it must be super doable, right? Wrong.
We painted our house ourselves and it took a long time
Our little yellow house wasn't perfect when we bought her in 2009, and her paint job was well-worn by the time we decided we needed to paint. Both my husband and I own our own businesses, and we are in a saving money season verses a spending tons of money season, so when my sweet father-in-law offered to help us paint our house, we said yes! It took us a whole year to follow through because we needed clear, good-weathered weekends during a time of year it was comfortable to be outside. The year we became parents was not that year.

The difference between minimal and unfinished decorating
I've been lying in bed thinking about this quite a lot over the past year. My life ritual is to swing from one extreme to another, then gently wander my way into middle ground. I did this with boyfriends. I did this with work. I'm doing this with my bedroom decorating, duh. So my once packed bedroom became quite a blank canvas this past year. And it's from this place, I have been contemplating the difference between minimal design and something not quite finished.
