This week Palmer painted her entryway a welcoming peach color, and I took family photos in my home. Palmer and I have been talking about how sometimes home updates mean making things "better than they were," or "good enough for now," and that this thinking is a healthy approach to home progress for us. If I didn't check my need for perfection, I wouldn't have let my sweet family photo session take place in home. But my house is where our best memories are, and unfinished trim won't stop me from celebrating where my family is right now. #progressoverperfection

Becoming a plant lady

If you can't tell from all my instagram stories about plants, I am on a journey to become a green thumb. I'm trying to document this path for all my fellow dreamers out there. When #jungalowstyle is ever in our faces, and when NASA recommends at least one air-purifying plant per 100 square feet of our homes, I want to be that person offering a nod to the cold hard truth of plant care–it ain't always easy and it's not just about watering them. 

I have a secret weapon lovingly nicknamed "Succulent Sara." While she's best known for growing our fabulous and beloved succulents, her past life includes managing a large nursery with all types of plants. It's in her heart and in her soul, and she's my friend. I am not afraid to ask her all sorts of inane questions about the plants I am harboring up at Retro Den.

Styling with Pattern and Color: Our Favorite Interior Power Clashes

One of our favorite games to play while styling the shop is, "Can we make this go together?" It's a fun game, really. To play, we pick two pieces (rugs, sofas, chairs, artwork...) that are super loud or crazily patterned and then try to build a scene around them using only things we have in the shop so that they "go together" in the end. It's a great challenge because we only have so many neutral colored rugs or solid sofas to work with, so often times we end up power clashing.
