Our Top 5 Reasons Why to Shop Vintage

Shopping vintage. A topic obviously near and dear to us Ashleys' hearts. We both quit our professional day jobs to run a vintage home shop afterall. Why is shopping vintage so wonderful you ask? Here's why!

1. You need old and new in your home. Ever go into a house and it feels like a catalogue or, on the other extreme, a thrift store? That, my friends, is because every home needs both old and new pieces to look balanced and pulled together. While there are always exceptions, only having new pieces in your space leaves it looking sterile and unimaginative, whereas only having vintage can give off a grandma vibe. That's why it's so important to mix it up and let the pieces complement one another to achieve an optimal look. The new lends your home a modern and fresh feel whereas the vintage gives it soul and character. One without the other wouldn't be nearly as beautiful. Let them work together for you.

Succulent Care Guide: Succulents that need more water

Succulent Care Guide: Succulents that need more water

Oh hey

Succulents are known for their low water needs, but there are a few instances where you may need to water more often than typically recommended

  • If you own any of these more spindly succulents pictured, they may need a little more water than plumper varieties. They don't have the capacity to store water as well as some of the other succulents. If your thinner succulent seems dry or distressed, try giving it a smaller amount of water more often, even once a week.
  • If you have purchased the tiny potted succulents from our shop, they need more regular watering due to the container, which is small and allows quick evaporation. Give these guys two tablespoons of water once a week.
  • Christmas Cacti have special needs to achieve optimal blooming. We've got a whole post on this topic.

Holding On & Moving On: Rustic Modern Dining Room

Holding On & Moving On: Rustic Modern Dining Room

Our move last year gave me the motivation and inspiration to go for a more rustic modern look in our home. My excitement to start anew is evidenced by the fact that the living room in the new house looks nothing like my previous living room. It's a completely new space. However, upon reflection, the dining room is a different story.

To my surprise, my new dining room is like the rustic modern sister of the old one. When I took a step back, I realized this familial resemblance is because I both held on and moved on when it came to the dining room. Specifically, I held on to core elements and moved on with the rest.
