Secret: when Ashley and I put rooms together in the store, we come up with a pretend person who lives there and develop ideas about his/her personality and life. It helps us make a coherent space.

For our most recent room, we used a real person but made up a situation. Below, meet my husband Ryan's efficiency apartment. This is where he'd live if he was a bachelor, and the place where he'd charm me into loving him (As if his blazing red hair is not enough on its own!). Of course in this scenario, we've met later in life at the store.

Ashley and I had the incredible pleasure of furnishing a 6,500 square foot downtown Tulsa office space for Consumer Affairs, a super cool software start-up. Our friends at Prairie Hive helped us document the before and after process; read about the project and see photos on their blog.

We rescued this gorgeous conference table top and paired it with a set of metal bases. The table top was too long to take up the stairs or the elevator, and we were finally told it wouldn't be able to make it to the second story office. However, we brought in our friend Fix-It, truly the great fixer of everything, for his opinion. He spied an industrial lift sitting on the street outside the building and said we simply needed to find whoever owned or was renting it.

We did a Retro Den Instagram (@retrodentulsa) series of Thanksgiving table settings and thought we'd do a little review post of all that fine-dining. Setting a table is like the razzle dazzle misdirection of a magician. It's the first thing guests see, and it can prime them to remember the meal favorably. Plus, it's an easy way to show that you care to create a nice experience for them.
